The heavyweight class sports car Supra of which TOYOTA is proud is a front
engine rear wheel drive layout sports car which at high-speed has high
stability such as top-class aero dynamic performance (with front active spoiler
models achieving a Cd figure of 0.30), REAS(RZ, SZ-R), a front active
spoiler(option),17 inches tires exclusive brakes, and a G-force
body.
Under the hood, a high-output twin-sequential turbocharged 3.0
liter BEAMS 2JZ-GTE engine with VVT-i or a easy-to-handle 3.0-liter LASRE 2JZ-GE
engine. The engine "breathing" is optimized with VVT-i because an intelligent
computer control system adjusts the timing of the intake camshaft to provide
throttle response, low-end power and emissions. Intelligent computer control
allows for continuous adjustment of cam timing to suit a wide range of
operating conditions. Moreover, turbo response has been improved and the moment
of inertia has lowered by adopting twin ceramic turbine-wheels.
The Supra RZ, RZ-S & SZ-R adopts a close-ratio 6-speed manual gearbox
jointly developed by Toyota and GETRAG of Germany. The Supra RZ-S is available
with the steering-shift matic ETC-iE. An electronically controlled
four-speed automatic transmission with manual upshift/downshift switches
conveniently located on the steering wheel.
REAS (Relative Absorber System) for
comfortable ride and high handlings stability. The REAS features an entirely
new mechanism that functions not only to achieve a comfortable ride with a
relatively small amount of damping force in cases like when both tires hit a gap
in the road, but also functions to stabilize the body of the automobile against
lateral "rolling" motion by adding a suitable amount of extra damping force and
absorb the force acting in the lateral roll direction, as when cornering, when
the pattern of depressions and protrusions in the road surface are different on
the left and right wheel sides or when subjected to cross winds. Three main
points of the REAS structure are as follows 1. The left and right shock
absorbers have separate oil chambers with a REAS valve positioned on the
connection flow passage. 2A single gas chamber is shared by the left and
right. 3. Using the separate actions of hydraulic fluid and gas, a separating
piston is activated by the coupled movements from the right and
left.
Toyota's passive safety body GOA (Global Outstanding
Assessment) has been developed to help protect occupants and to minimize
injuries. Moreover, the Supra is equipped with ABS, Sports ABS(RZ), ETCS-i
(2JZ-GTE), and SRS airbags.
The main features of the Supra RZ are
: Twin-sequential turbocharged 3.0 liter 6-cylinder twin-cam 24 valve
electronic fuel injection (EFI) engine with variable valve timing-intelligent
(VVT-i), Torsen Limited slip differential (6MT), 4-sensor 4-channel Anti-lock
Brake System (ABS), Electronic throttle control system-intelligent (ETCS-i),
Four-wheel double wishbone suspension, 17-inchs ventilated disc brakes, Driver's
and passenger's Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) air bags, Relative Absorber
System (REAS) that optimizes control of the relative movement of the right and
left wheel suspensions.
The main features of the Supra RZ-S are
: Twin-sequential turbocharged 3.0 liter 6-cylinder twin-cam 24 valve
electronic fuel injection (EFI) engine with variable valve timing-intelligent
(VVT-i), Torsen Limited slip differential (6MT), ABS, Driver's and passenger's
SRS air bags, Four-wheel double wishbone suspension, ETCS-i, Electronically
controlled automatic (ECT-iE) with flex lock-up clutch.
The main features
of the Supra SZ-R are : 3.0-liter 6-cylinder twin cam 24 valve electronic
fuel injection (EFI) engine, Torsen Limited slip differential (6MT), ABS,
Driver's and passenger's SRS air bags, Four-wheel double wishbone suspension,
REAS suspensions.
The main features of the Supra SZ/SZ-R are :
3.0-liter 6-cylinder
twin cam 24 valve electronic fuel injection (EFI)engine, ABS, Driver's and
passenger's SRS air bags, Four-wheel double wishbone suspension.
