In May 1967, Toyota announced the release of the TOYOTA 2000GT jointly
developed by Toyota Motor Co., Ltd. which grew up to the automaker of the
top of Japan and Yamaha Motor Co., Ltd. which boasted of a higher technology.
The 3M engine put in under the long-nose hood is the first 6 cylinder in-line
DOHC engine in Japan. Three SOREX 40PHH twin chalk carburetors are installed,
and produced 150PS/6600rpm(gross). A further developed race version achieves
200PS.
The features of the exterior are long-nose/short deck coupe style with
pop-up headlights and side window design called Chinese's eyes. The independent
double wishbone/coil suspension, equipped with the disc brakes, has been
adopted. Moreover, the magnesium wheels has been adopted. The interior
uses rosewood panels.
