Main features of the BNR34 Skyline GT-R & Skyline GT-R V-spec are :
Engine and Powertrain
:
Powering the Skyline GT-R is a further refined version of the RB26DETT
24-valve in-line 6-cylinder DOHC engine. Compared with the engine used
on the R33 Skyline GTR, the camshafts have been modified for improved valve
timing, enabling the engine to generate 15.6 kgm/liter of torque. Moreover,
new twin ball bearing ceramic turbocharges have been adopted to deliver
sharp, instantaneous response to accelerator inputs.
Adopted as the transmission was a new 6-speed manual transmission jointly
developed by NISSAN and GETRAG of Germany. Close-ratio gearing has been
adopted for the first through the fifth speed ranges compared with the
first through the fourth speed ranges of the 5-speed transmission used
on the previous model.
A helical LSD with superb responsiveness and controllability has been adopted
for improved traction during cornering and enhanced response to accelerator
inputs. The GT-R Vspec comes with an active LSD for optimum torque split
control.
The adoption of mufflers with exhaust pressure-sensitive control and dual
stainless steel tailpipes with large orifices has reduced the back pressure.
Body and performance :
The body is based on the R34 Skyline 2-door coupe, with further increases
in rear body stiffness and underfloor stiffness.
The electric-powered Super HICAS for-wheel steering system with yaw rate
feedback control is used to provide steering response and stability. Braking
performance of the Brembo has been enhanced by changing the brake cooling
system and also fitting the front brakes with a high friction-coefficient
pad material made by Jurid. In addition, the shell plate thickness of the
brake booster has been increased . All models are equipped with 245/45ZR18
Potenza RE040 tires developed specifically for the Skyline GT-R.
Compared with the R33 Skyline GT-R, the overall length has been shortened
by 75mm, the wheelbase by 55mm and the front overhang by 20mm, resulting
in a wheelbase/tread ratio for enhanced driving performance.
The rear spoiler has been changed to a dual-level type with the angle adjustment
mechanism consisting of a main wing and a variable wing. Moreover, the
Skyline GT-R V-spec model adopts a front diffuser and a carbon rear diffuser
to create a downforce for regulating the air flow along the car's undersurface,
allowing positive use of aerodynamic force for enhanced handling and stability.
Interior :
The combination meter cluster has the tachometer positioned on the left
side for instantaneous and easy recognition of important rpm. A multifunctional
display was installed in the atop level of the center console. Seven items
are presented in three modes on the 5.8 display, beginning with such basic
information as the boost pressure, water temperature and oil temperature
and extending to the voltage, throttle opening, fuel injector opening rate
and front toque split. The Skyline GT-R V-spec added the intake air temperature
and exhaust gas
temperature. An engine immobilizer was also provided as an anti-theft
measure.
Other : ATTESA E-TS : Electronic Torque Split 4WD System
.(GT-R) ATTESA E-TS PRO : Active LSD for optimum torque split control.
(V-spec) Suspension : Four-Wheel Multi-Link Suspension. Monoform bucket
seats have been newly developed specifically for the GT-R. Adopted Xenon
headlights.
Adopted High-strength Zone Body construction. |
