The main features of the Lancer Evolution VII are :
The Lancer Evolution VII GSR :
The Lancer Evolution VII retains the 4G63 2.0 liter 16 valve DOHC intercooler
turbocharged engine.
Maximum torque of the 4G63 engine has been boosted to 39.0Kg-m at
3500 rpm by improving a turbocharger, by using an updated intercooler,
by using a redesigned intake-piping to reduce a 20% reduction in intake
resistance, and by adopting a 3-nozzle intercooler spray with a manual
switch.
The upper engine weight has been reduced through the replacement of aluminum
rocker covers with magnesium, and the use of hollow cam shafts.
Furthermore, back pressure in the exhaust system has been reduced through
the use of a spherical joint for the front exhaust pipe and a straighter exhaust
pipe.
The Lancer Evolution VII employs a new Active Center Differential (ACD)
that improves traction performance and steering response through corners,
and retains the Active Yaw Control system (AYC) that enhances cornering
performance. Integrated control of the ACD and the AYC handling enhancement
systems brings superior acceleration and handling characteristics.
The 5-speed manual transmission has been updated for the increased engine
torque by using stronger materials for some of the gears.
The Evolution VII retains the MacPherson strut front suspension and multi-link
rear suspension, and Brembo 17 inches ventilated disc 4-pot caliper front
brakes and 16 inches ventilated disc 2-pot caliper brakes. The Sports ABS
with EBD (Electronic Braking Force Distribution) adds a steering angle
sensor to the ABS with longitudinal and lateral G sensors and wheel speed
sensors.
A 50% increase in body torsional stiffness stems from stronger suspension
mountings and body frame joins, the use of special reinforcements in over
20 additional places, extra welding sports and use of front strut tower
bars.
The Lancer Evolution VII is equipped with an aluminum engine hood with
heat-extraction outlets and NACA cooling-ducts, a front bumper with side
slots, a large under cover, front and rear blister-type fender flares,
large air-dams under the front bumper and at the sides, and a rear spoiler
with a variable angle of attack.
And it comes with Recaro bucket seats, a MOMO
3-spoke leather-rim steering wheel, a leather-trimmed shift lever knob, and five
dials sports meters.
The Lancer Evolution VII RS :
Available by order was the RS Evolution VII competition version for entry
in motor sports events.
The turbocharger uses a titanium alloy turbine for reduced intake
pressure losses and improved response and high-end power output. And a twin
plate clutch is available (optional).
