
Mazda announced the release of the Familia GT-R AWD 3 door hatchback in
April, 1992. The Familia GT-R was developed specifically with the purpose
of participating in the WRC, although Mazda announced the withdrawal from
the WRC before introducing the Familia GT-R consequentially. The Familia
GT-R is powered by an 1839cc L-4 DOHC turbocharged BP engine. The BP 1839cc
engine performance has been improved to 210 horsepower and 25.5kg-m
of torque by updating the turbine and intercooler and by employing the
titanium con-rods. The AWD system offers 43 / 57 front to rear torque distribution.
Also, the Familia GT-R adopts 15 inches disc brakes. The Famila GT-Ae is
a competition base model (300 limited).
